German term

Großvolumige Bauteile sollen durchgehend im Mehrwegblister verpackt werden

German to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing
"Großvolumige Bauteile, wie Rotor, Stator und Deckel sollen durchgehend im Mehrwegblister KLT1234, zusätzlich mit Blister oder Stegeinsatz, verpackt werden."
I know that KLT is Kleinladungsträger (which the client calls small, durable container). It's the word durchgehend I'm having trouble with. Does that mean simply that these parts should all be packed in a reusable blister pack? Then why "zusätzlich mit Blister ..." if they're already in one. Also, does anyone know what a Stegeinsatz (some type of insert) is called in English?
Thanks for any input, Beth.

as a general rule

I don't think it's as complicated and complicated as all that - I understand the sentence to mean that as a rule (in general), these components are to be packaged in the KLT container, in addition to which blister packaging and segmentation (bar) inserts are to be used.
Langenscheidt does give "general" for durchgehend, and I'm sure that's what's meant.
HTH!

"Mehrwegblister KLT 1234" means a reusable blister pack of the type KLT 1234.

Durchgehend: continuously ("all the way")
Stegeinsatz: compartment insert, partitioning insert

So what the sentence means is that the larger parts are to stay in their invidividual reusable blister packs throughout the transportation procedure but that they are to be placed together in a large container, where - as an additional precaution - they are to be separated by means of a compartment insert or, alternatively, placed in loose blisters, which would also prevent them from damaging one another.

I hope this helps.

Der Begriff durchgehend bezieht sich hier vermutlich darauf, dass das ganze Teil mit dem Verpackungsmaterial eingewickelt/umgeben sein muss.

Den Begriff "durchgehend" wuerde ich daher hier als "from end to end" or "entirely" uebersetzen.

Der Begriff "Stegeinsatz" bezieht sich auf Verpackungseinsaetze die der Verpackung und dem Paket zusaetzliche Stabilitaet geben.

Hier ein Auszug aus einer Webseite ueber Verpackungen:

... Einsatzmöglichkeiten für die Produkte. Ein innen eingearbeiteter, teilweise automatisch aufrichtender Stegeinsatz sorgt für die notwendige Stabilität, aus drei bis vier Teilen gestanzt.

Stegeinsatz = cross brace packaging insert or reinforcement insert

I hope this helps.

1. yes, durchgend here means 'generally' or 'as a rule'

2. my guess is that 'Blister' in the phrase 'zusätzlich mit Blister' means these plastic sheets with lots of littlw air pillows that are often used for packing -- thus what the sentence means is that the large parts should generally be packed in KL1234 reusable blister packs, together with plastic blister sheets or separators.
