Hallo liebe Kolleg:innen,

torture breeding / qualzucht (torture breeding)
The literal translation of the term Qualzucht is torture breeding. I found this term in the Times, the Telegraph and on websites such as worldanimalvoice.
Here are some examples:
Qualzucht or “torture breeding” should be a crime
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/pets/news-features/qualzucht-or-...
Torture breeding: the racial madness in dogs and cats
https://worldanimalsvoice.com/2020/12/18/torture-breeding-th...
Here is a word that you probably haven’t heard before, but which you should know. The word is qualzucht. It is used in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and translates literally as “torture breeding”.
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/if-you-have-a-torture-bre...
It seems that you can either use 'qualzucht' or 'torture breeding' – although qualzucht may not be immediately clear to English-speaking readers. I would use ‘torture breeding’ or ‘qualzucht’ with added literal translation.

Example sentence:
NAKED PRIMAL DOG BREEDS ARE NOT TORTURE BREEDING AND DO NOT BELONG ON THE LIST OF TORTURE BREEDS!

: Sorry, I've changed my mind :-) I don't think there's a need to invent a new term when we can use "cruel" or "extreme".

Puppy mill
I realize "puppy mill" doesn't sound super official and there might indeed be a term of art in the breeding world, but this is the first thing I thought of in your context. If you google "breeders" vs "puppy mills" you'll find a lot. For your context you might be able to say something like "registered breeders are not puppy mills!"
Note from asker:
Good point, thanks Susan, also for the article! |

: Well, this is a recognizable English term and involves all the horrors of irresponsible breeding/breeding for profit alone

: A puppy mill is something else. It's just brainless multiplying of dogs.

Looking at the later suggestions, I still find this fits best in the asker's context. As I suggested, try googling "puppy mill" and "breeders" and you'll see that it's used in precisely the same context as "Qualzucht."

This is the term used by the ASPCA. It is not a translation, rather their own term.

: PETA seems to think this is emotive enough. I'd rewrite it similar to: "...the breeding of unhealthy dogs and dogs with severe genetic disorders..." https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-proposals-on-p... You have to explain it anyway...

extreme breeding
Was ist Qualzucht (§ 11b Tierschutzgesetz)?
https://www.tieraerztekammer-berlin.de/qualzucht.html
https://www.zh.ch/de/umwelt-tiere/tiere/haustiere-heimtiere/...
The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) has put forward a call to action to regulators, breeders, and the public aimed at ending the extreme breeding of animals.
[…]When breeding programs focus on specific exaggerated conformational changes, sometimes referred to as extreme breeding, there can be unintended negative consequences that could affect the health and welfare of offspring.”
