Discussion

Julia Esrom Apr 18, 2007:
"Umwelt-Forschungsprojekt" is a rather broad term and could involve data collection about people (social science) or about biological systems (e.g. climate change research). I think it would make a difference in which term is best.
Julia Esrom Apr 17, 2007:
The context presented here may require a different answer than the one given in the previous KUDOZ question, no?

participants / study participants

Julia has a point, it is unclear whether the actors are the researchers, the reserach subjects or simply all individuals AND organisations involved...
In that case you might like to talk about the "key players and participants".

agree Jim Tucker (X) : yes, this is more appropriate than the previous answers when talking about a research writeup

agree Craig Meulen : I agree with your doubled suggestion, but I also think "participants" would be ambiguous enough to cover both, in the context given. And that's when a translator can really pat themself on the back - finding a translation as ambiguous as the original :-)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you so much for your suggestion! Participant sounds great."

Key players

This may fit here depending on your context.

Perhaps also: key researchers, although the term "Akteure" may include not only the researchers but also research subjects
Peer comment(s):

neutral Kcda : Using "Key players" is a slick way of using the English language but requires somehow too much finesse to build into this context.

Thanks for your thoughts. I am sure Damian´s reply is absolutely appropriate in this context. However, I wonder why the term "Akteure" was used in the first place. Participants really are "Teilnehmer" which is not what the source text says. Thanks again.
