German term

Aufwärmküche

German to English Other Cooking / Culinary also education-related
This is in a description of a construction contract for a school:

"Da die Grundschule die Schüler auch betreut, realisiert die XXX auch zwei Gruppenräume mit Nebenräumen sowie eine *Aufwärmküche* mit Essraum."
I suppose these are lunchrooms without a cafeteria, and a kitchen with microwave ovens for warming up food, and I imagine food dispensing machines will also be available, or am I wrong about this? I don't know anyone with schoolage children in the US, so I don't really know. Is there an AE term for this? Thanks very much.

Either way, Woodstock -- I won't be insulted. You might want to enter both "warm-up kitchen" and "reheating kitchen" in the glossary, though, since they both are used.

In the meantime I have found the solution: I just guessed and Googled "warm-up kitchen", and lo and behold, it came up enough times (61 times) and in the relevant context, so I think I'll go with that. Thanks very much idwerk. Should I close the question without grading, or do I give you the points anyway? This situation hasn't come up in my experience before.

Thanks, Sandra.

Hi, have a look at www.apetito.de. Thats what you need a "Aufwärmküche" for - in my understanding :-)

'reheating kitchen' appears to be much more common:
