This is a partial answer; Auftritt is tread (Trittflaeche), but for the "Sohle" I am not quite sure because of the very large dimension of 4m,
unless this is some sort of (deep) shaft that has a railing around it

benching
The benching is the bit you stand on in a manhole, next to and above the open channel and this would fit here, since the ladder would reach from ground level down to these flat surfaces either side of the channel. See the web reference for a picture.
