German term

Aggregateraum

German to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
I am translating a list of material names/ component names for the master data for vehicle parts. The document is for a company that specialises in vehicle bodies.
Two entries are
"Zusammenbau Dichtung Aggregateraum vorne"
"Zusammenbau Dichtung Aggregateraum hinten"

I have found a patent which describes it and calls it a "unit area" but I am not happy with this translation.

Hello Ken, These are cars and vans
Ken Cox Mar 5, 2008:
This will depend on the type of vehicle(s) -- i.e. not the same for railcars as for automobiles.

Accessories compartment

Hi Louise, the Daimler database has this as "accessories compartment" or "major assemblies compartment" i.e. very similar to Jonathon and Richard's answers
Note from asker:
Thanks Tansy - why didn't I think to look in there??!!
Peer comment(s):

agree Richard Stephen : I should have looked it up - you're right - except my DB 2008-02-08 only lists your second choice - "major assemblies compartment"

The website starts with an abtract:
"An aggregate space for the battery, wiper motor, relays and similar vehicle aggregates arranged within the area of the engine space of a motor vehicle, which is subdivided from the engine space, properly speaking, by at least one partition wall and is constructed as a space that is closed but readily accessible; the space is also adapted to be vented by inlet and discharge openings which are arranged at special locations to utilize a high pressure drop."

auxiliary motor compartment

My preference, rather than using patent language...
Peer comment(s):

disagree Richard Stephen : Are you talking about the engine compartment? Do you know of any cars with auxiliary engines? Or do you mean a compartment where electric motors are installed for some other application? But what would these motors be? - AS I

I don't care for your form; I don't really see how you can disagree with my posting, when (1) you admit you don't know what I mean and (2) you post virtually the same answer as me.

(auxiliary) equipment compartment

MB uses this term for a compartment separated from the engine compartment where (auxiliary) equipment is installed.
