German term
Grabungsschnitte hinlegen
German to English
Science
Archaeology
Context:
Durch eine Untersuchung mit dem Georadar vorab wissen die Archäologen genau, wo sie ihre Grabungsschnitte am besten hinlegen können.
I'm thinking along the lines of:
By mapping the ground by georadar in in advance of the dig the archaeologists know precisely where best to plant their spades.
The dictionary translation of Grabungsschnitt (Section, cf. http://www.dict.cc/?s=Grabungsschnitt ) just doesn't seem to work in this context. Would "plant their spades" be a suitable way of putting it here?
