English term

Yielding of lug at screw

English to French Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Chocolat
Bonjour,

Yielding of lug at screw me pose problème, avez-vous déjà rencontré le terme?

Merci beaucoup pour votre aide,

Audrey

"Discount Tire overtightened your lugs. They went beyond the elastic range of steel and the lug yielded. There is no possible way to remove them without breaking the now work hardened brittle steel. They owe you new lugs, but I wouldn't let them touch it given their poor work to date. Even the ones that didn't snap are still probably in the yield range and will eventually fail once they are "worked" some more."

agree Tony M : Certainly 'patte (de fixation)' for lug; without more context, hard to be sure exactly what the 'at screw' means; possibly 'at the position of the screw hole' — presumably that's where the metal is narrowest.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Given that this is apparently a fault description, I don't think 'contrainte limite' is really a good solution for rendering 'yielding' / Yes, of course; but there's no 'contrainte' in s/t; 'yielding' is 'the action of « rupture »'
