I used to translate a trade journal, where small and medium-sized enterprises advertise their businesses in the disguise of "interviews" or "press releases". Having to put up with poorly written content was part of my job. Things like "exporting to countries abroad" or "exporting to foreign countries" were quite common.

It was written by some educator somewhere. The field of education has its own jargon, which sometimes is odd. They are pushing social-emotional learning (SEL) heavily, and this letter is about a unit on the emotion of fear.

Either this was written by a confused ex-cop or ex-military who hadn't quite grasped the change of setting yet or someone utterly apathetic just going through the motions and filling out body text for an approved plan that came in bullet form.

Your student will need to answer the question Is fear always a harmful emotion? He or she will write an argumentative essay and give a speech, drawing on knowledge gained from the selections in this unit, as well as from the Performance Tasks he or she completed.

Either the word "performance" can be omitted completely because it is redundant, or they need to clarify if they need to "perform" in front of an audience. I asked the company what they meant. I only got an automated email saying they would get back to me soon. That was about 3 weeks ago. In the meantime, this document has been put on hold, so maybe I don't have to turn in a translation after all.

This is in a letter to be sent by several schools to parents.
