マイクロリアクター、あるいはマイクロチャネルリアクターとも呼ばれる、微細加工技術によってつくられた数～数百µmスケールのマイクロ流路を有する微小反応器を、物質生産に用いようという試みが活発に行われている1,2)。空間の狭さに由来する、以下のような特徴を活かした反応系の開発が進められている。
一方、このマイクロリアクターの特性を分子の光励起によって引き起こされる化学反応に応用しようという試みはまだ数少ない。光励起によって生じる励起分子は、基底状態分子と比べ非常に高いエネルギーや異なる電子配置、また異なった構造を持ち得る。結合の開裂や生成は光化学過程の特徴のひとつであり、また熱化学反応では得ることのできない、特有の反応生成物も期待される。そこで外部エネルギーとして光を用いた協奏的マイクロ反応場の研究が行われるようになってきている。

Excited molecules initiated by photoexcitation may have substantially higher energy, different electron onfiguration or electron structure compare to ground state molecules.
Photochemical process has unique features such as cleavage and formation of bonds. Reaction products specific to photochemical process, which are unable to be obtained by the thermochemical reaction process, can be expected.
