Has anyone else noticed this? From a quick scan of the posts in this forum, it seems that almost every single time, the fake document inquired about is in the 11,600-word range. I can only surmise that experience has shown the scammers that this is the ideal length for getting victims to bite - large enough that someone desperate might throw their usual caution to the wind, but not so large that they would be wary enough to demand cleared, irrevocable advance payment or verifiable information ab... I just find it interesting that the scammers seem to have hit on this specific number as ideal.

Well... Dec 29, 2019

I’ve been targeted by scammers once or twice. I can’t remember the exact number of words but I believe it was more like 15,000 words. Anyway, I never accept a project from a new client over 5,000 words, unless it comes from a well-known organization or is paid in advance.

I remember a case, not too long ago, when I had to interpret for a defendant extradited to the US. He had no command of English but had a list of canned „answers” in order to communicate with the potential victims. At the beginning, years ago, a smart scammer came with this type of scam and, because it worked, he sold it online to other scammers, hence the abundance of spams/scams of this sort. Nothing fancy about 44/11,000.

Hope I answered your question.
Happy New Year,
Lee

How do I know? Dec 31, 2019

Where to get the word count in Thunderbird?
This morning I got two messages from Nigeria, quite short really, only a few sentences. Good Finnish too. They make progress.
